Tom Hanks has been discharged from the Australian hospital where he has been in solitary confinement after he was found positive for coronavirus last week, but his wife Rita Wilson remains hospitalized, health authorities said Tuesday.
The numerous Oscar-winning star was on the Gold Coast outside Brisbane to shoot an Elvis Presley biopic directed by Australian Baz Luhrmann when he and Wilson, both 63 years old, came down with the illness.
Wilson, a singer-songwriter, had played concerts in Sydney and Brisbane before being found positive for COVID-19, and the Australian authorities had been checking the couple’s communications to find any other individuals who may have been affected.
To date, Australia has reported almost 400 cases of coronavirus, with five deaths from the disease.
The pair spoke on social media about their run-in with COVID-19, praised their Australian carers and encouraged their followers to seek specialist guidance on disease prevention.
Hanks was believed to have returned to the penthouse apartment on the Gold Coast, where the couple lived while working on Lurhmann’s script, in which he was due to play Elvis ‘ long-time boss, Colonel Tom Parker.
